Best Inventions of 2017: Our Top 5 List

It’s safe to say 2017 was a successful year in general. Denmark became debt free for the first time in 183 years, the city of Grenoble in France banned all outdoor advertising and replaced the signs with trees and a woman in Colorado won $ 3.3 million in the lottery the same week as she quit her job. Besides that, companies around the world continued their innovation processes and so we’ve welcomed many new inventions. These are the 5 that made Ideanote’s top 5 list.

Best inventions of 2017 #1: Glasses that give sight to the blind

eSight 3 are the most powerful glasses in the world. Made for millions of legally blind people around the world, eSight 3 does something no support canes and guide dogs can do, yet! When put on, eSight 3 records high definition video and uses magnification, contrast and proprietary algorithms to enhance that imagery into something legally blind can’t see – enabling them to partake in a variety of activities, including sports. After its launch in February, eSight 3 was used on more than 1000 patients. The only problem is the price – it retails for $ 9,995 a device so it’s not accessible to everyone. However, the company does connect the possible buyers with various funding sources. eSight 3 made our list of best innovations because it’s a total game changer!

Best inventions of 2017 #2: Elevators that move beyond up and down

2017 was a test year for MULTI, Germany-made system of elevators that are chaining what we know about buildings and magnetic levitation. “The elevator cars can travel in multiple directions and even pass each other within a shaft—features that could not only reduce wait times, but also fundamentally change how buildings are constructed,” says Andreas Schierenbeck, CEO of Thyssenkrupp Elevator. This is the worlds first hopeless, horizontal-vertical elevator system. So, what makes it possible to travel sideways? It’s the use of multiple magnetised cabins, which operate in the same shaft on an electromagnetic track.

Best inventions of 2017 #3: Molekule

Most air filters improve air quality by trapping pollutants in a filter. Molekule, however, goes a step father and destroys them all together. A special nano filter reacts with light to mold, toxins and bacteria, and it prevents them from growing back. Molekule comes with two filters: a Pre-Filter and a Nano-Filter. The Pre-Filter captures larger particles such as dust and pet hair, while the Nano-Filter is coated by proprietary catalyst that breaks down pollutants at a molecular level when activated by light. The price is pretty high – §800, plus § 99 per year for filters, but the founders think it’s worth it. Jaya Rao, Dilip Goswami and Dr. Yogi Goswami are founders of the company who strongly believe improved air quality is basically priceless. It seems like the investors feel the same, as Molekule have raised §15 million by now.

Best inventions of 2017 #4: Ember mug

Did you know you only have approximately 37 seconds to enjoy your coffee brew at an ideal level of warmth? Not long enough and not fair, I know! Well thankfully, Clay Alexander, founder of Los Angeles based Ember Technologies, took the frustration and turned it into one of the best inventions of 2017, according to Time.

The stainless steel Ember mug keeps your coffee at an ideal temperature – from 120°F to 145°F. This is a smart drinking device, set through the phone. Launched in November, the cup is available in almost 5 000 Starbuck’s around the US! If you’re more into a travel than a desk version, you can get your Ember travel mug. Not only it retain’s hit but it also regulates it!

Best inventions of 2017 #5: Tesla model 3

Here at Ideanote, we keep an eye on everything Elon Musk does. Therefore, it’s only natural to mention Tesla model 3 in our Best inventions of 2017 list. As good as they are for the environment, electric cars are often very expensive or they have a too limited range. Musk took it into consideration when creating model 3. With $ 35.000 and up in costs and the possibility of more than 200 km driving distance a single charge, it’s almost a waste to drive anything else. It seems like everyone is on the same page with this invention, as Tesla is struggling to keep up with the number of orders. Back in October, Musk tweeted: “We are deep in production hell.” after receiving more than 1800 orders per day!

However, the production is going good, and Tesla is still playing a major role in making the world a better place and fighting the climate change.

2017: A great year for innovation

Considering the number of new inventions in 2017, picking the top 5 was pretty tough! However, the above-mentioned inventions are changing the world as we know it. Or at least our daily lives. Continuous change leads to innovation, and innovation is what we should all aim for. From the smallest things such as a coffee mug to inventions that are saving the environment, each change counts. Happy with what have witnessed in 2017, we are hopeful for the new, 2018. Let’s all innovate!

We’ve been good at following all that is new, throughout the whole year, so make sure to check out our blog! You might like Elon Musk’s great ideas or 7 innovative ideas that changed the retail industry.
