Obama Receives Recognition for Open Innovation Achievements
President Barack Obama has been honored with the Award for Outstanding Global leadership in Open Innovation.
This public and well-deserved recognition took place at the recent World Open Innovation Conference in Barcelona, Spain.
Every year, the Garwood Center for Corporate Innovation at Berkeley-Haas wants to recognize a global leader who applies open innovation to create significant change. In this case, President Obama was lauded for his championing of open innovation through various government initiatives and programs.
Among them are:
- The Open Government Initiative – focuses on transparent and collaboration at all levels of government
- The Next-Generation Hubs Program – provides online tools for entrepreneurs to start businesses easily and quickly
- The New Strategy for American Innovation – aims to create a better innovation in federal government
- The Educate to Innovate Program – designed to raise science and math learning among students with the help of companies, foundations, non-profits and others
Evidence of President Obama’s unstinting support for open innovation can also be seen in his A Strategy for American Innovation. A key plank of this is using open innovation and the expertise, ingenuity and creativity of Americans to improve America’s economic growth and international competitiveness.
There have also been numerous public-facing initiatives to raise awareness of open innovation and citizen involvement. They include the Citizen Science Forum “Open Science and Innovation: of the People, By the People, for the People”.
The award was accepted on the President’s behalf by Marcos C. Mandojana, Consul General of the United States of America in Barcelona.
