Creative Solutions to Complex Problems

Interesting and creative solutions for complex problems usually come from combining interesting insights, information and challenges. I did write about this in the past here, here, here, here and here.

Now, here is another example of a creative solution to complex problem. When you are sleeping alone in a tent in wilderness, the danger from wandering animals is a real problem. And when you are alone, the problem is amplified.

Here is Roman Signer, a performance artist creates an interesting take on staying safe (not as a problem to be solved but an experiment to explore). He knows that he snores while he sleeps. So, he brings along with him a mic and connects it with powerful speakers which blast out his snoring to the wilderness, which potentially keeps the wandering animals away from his tent.

One of the most important ingredients in cooking up creative ideas is the ability to bring in diverse elements and work with what you have instead on focusing on what you don’t have (constraints). There is a fine line between using constraints as a fuel for creativity and it becoming a douser for creativity.

Thanks to Swissmiss (Tina Roth Eisenberg) for bringing this to my notice.
