Retail – Ready or not?

Cate Trotter – Founder and Head of Trends at Insider Trends

What is the state of innovation in the retail sector? Is retail ready to shift gears to thrive, to survive?

Several of our friends in the retail sector are entering 2020 with internal and external challenges, mergers and other transformations, and the daily grind can get quite tiring. Let me for a moment lift the conversation above and take a birds-eye-view of the bigger picture.

Some time before the Waitrose and John Lewis merger was announced I sat down with Retail Trends Expert Cate Trotter, Founder and Head of Trends at Insider Trends, and have (finally!) edited the interview into our first podcast episode.

With examples from the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Nike and Starbucks, Cate offers insights on

  • traditional vs ‘new’ retail
  • definition of omnichannel
  • using customer data in innovative ways
  • how it takes a looong time to take retail tech innovations to the masses
  • how she sees sustainability in retail is still mostly just lip service
  • the two “camps” of innovation in retail
