Winners of Nokia’s 2016 Open Innovation Challenge Announced

Nokia_logo-4A big round of applause is due to the winners of Nokia’s 2016 Open Innovation Challenge, a global search for the next big ideas in the Internet of Things (IoT).

Among the winning concepts was a firewall for the connected home and a home medical innovation that can help with the early detection of breast cancer.

Stephen Litjens, Vice President of Nokia Innovation Steering, said: “The Nokia Open Innovation Challenge is all about meeting innovators and thinking about how we can develop future Internet of Things uses cases together, simplifying people’s lives, making industries more efficient and creating new business opportunities for operators and enterprises.”

During this year’s iteration of the open innovation contest more than 400 companies submitted their ideas.  Through an intense evaluation process, judges whittled these down to12 finalists who were invited to a two-day workshop with Nokia mentors in Paris.  This was followed by a pitching event which resulted in the selection of three winners.

Open Innovation Winners

The first prize was awarded to CUJO for a firewall that’s designed to bring business level security to the home.

In second place was iSono Health, a concept that uses 3D ultrasound technology coupled with a machine learning algorithm to allow people to monitor their breast health at home.

Third prize was awarded to Mobagel for their Decanter(TM) Big Data AI engine. This is a business intelligence tool that chooses the optimal machine learning model and provides the right actionable insights for marketers and executives.

Next Steps 

The three winners will share a prize pot of up to 100,000 euros and will join Nokia’s Innovation Accelerator Program to incubate their ideas within the communications multinational, network with investors and access Nokia’s global market.
