Crisis in Leadership and a Call for Action

In July of 2012, I had published a blog post about leadership in crisis.

While reading the newspaper today, I realised that we are living in a world with a leadership crisis.

Whether it is lack of strong political leadership or strong leadership in the corporate world.

Is this because the current set of leaders never wanted to step down or nurture the next set of leaders?

Or is this because we are living in a time of rapid change and the current crop of leaders don’t understand the dynamics of the change and are at a loss on how to navigate the change?

Or is it because we, the common men know way too much to realise the failure of the current leaders?

Whatever may the cause be, it is time for a new set of leaders to come forward and take charge!

The question is will you lead this charge?

– mukesh gupta on his blog here.

I wrote that post because I felt that the general attitude towards leaders was turning to be mistrust. Common (wo)men saw that the leaders were failing them in all spheres of life.

It’s been almost a decade since then and I see the crisis only worsen. I strongly believe that the world has changed a lot in the last half a century and the way we lead has not kept pace with this change – be it in the political world or in the private, corporate world.

I had ended the post in 2012 with a question – “Will you lead this change by taking charge?

Now, a decade later, I am willing to take charge and work towards bringing about a change in how we lead and work towards creating a better future.

I know that I cant do it alone. We need a team of dedicated, talented, motivated and leaders who are willing to put in the effort to continue to learn, to evolve with the changing world and be good and do good. People like you, who are reading this blog.

The very premise of this newsletter is that leadership is not a position but a decision.

Will you join me in the journey to become better leaders and take charge of the corner of the world where you live and work towards making it a better place for everyone there?

Will you join me in the journey to be the kind of leaders who are not after the position of being a leader but who just lead?

Will you join me in the journey to be the kind of leaders who are not just looking out for their own personal gain but look out for the larger good of the community?

Will you join me in the journey to be the kind of leaders who will work towards finding, mentoring and creating good leaders around us?

Will you join me in the journey to be the kind of leaders who instead of polarising, are willing to come together to discuss, debate and work to find a solution that works for all?

Will you join me in the journey to be the kind of leaders who are willing to continue to learn and keep getting better as leaders?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, please do join the network that I have created specially for this purpose (as I don’t want this to be in any way dependent on any of the social media platforms) – https://rmukeshgupta.mn.co.
