The term began gaining popularity in the corporate world around 2013, and since then, digital transformation has become synonymous with the digitization of customer-facing products. Evaluating breakthrough innovation cultures and organization s, BCG concludes in their annual 2014 study: By definition, breakthrough innovation is the introduction of new ideas that drive a different way of doing things. Similarly, about 70 percent of disruptive innovators also lean toward a more centralized approach.

Only one thing is certain at this stage – you’re going to end up iterating your product time and time again, tweaking, perfecting, tearing it down and starting again.
