As Futurism opines, “one possibility is for it to serve as a mobile Echo of sorts. The device could follow owners around the home like a dedicated pet, waiting for its master to throw it a bone in the form of a verbal command.”
Beyond that no one is really saying what it might be capable of doing, or if it’s even a real project. Amazon is notorious for coming up with a ton of patents for technologies, like drone delivery systems, that never see the light of day. And like most major tech companies they are notoriously tight-lipped about what they may be up to.
What we do know though is that Amazon is said to be working on outfitting these house robots with the same AI and vision recognition software that helps driverless cars navigate. It’s also said to be coming as soon as 2019 although that release date seems a little bit aggressive based on our current understanding of the limitations relating to AI and robotics at the moment.
If anyone could pull off a full-fledged house robot though it’s Amazon. Especially, since the Echo’s success, along with its integration with Internet of Things enabled devices, (not to mention Amazon Prime video), has already given Amazon a pretty substantial head-start on penetrating the home market. At this point a house robot that cleans up after you, obeys your voice commands, and order items from Amazon for you, almost seems like a foregone conclusion. The latest step in Alexa’s evolution.
Is Amazon working on creating Rosie the Robot to replace Alexa?!
