2020 may have been the worst year ever but it was also one of the greatest years ever in terms of innovation. Here’s a quick look at some of the absolute greatest ideas of the year:
mRNA Technology: The fact that we’ll have a coronavirus vaccine in less than a year, instead of the decade that it should have taken, was all thanks to mRNA technology, a new vaccine development method that lets the human body do the heavy lifting paving the way for a healthcare revolution in the years to come.
AlphaFold: Google’s DeepMind AI can analyze complex protein folds in days that would normally take scientists years to untangle. This is a scientific breakthrough for the ages, solving a problem that has perplexed researchers for decades, and it could revolutionize healthcare in a plethora of ways.
SpaceX Launching Astronauts: For the very first time a private space company successfully launched Astronauts to the International Space Station, paving the way for private space industry to jump into high gear.
Information Has Mass: What if there’s no such as Dark Matter? What if instead information itself has mass? If this new theory is correct it could change everything.
The Moon Has Water: The discovery that the moon not only has water, but a lot of, could pave the way for the creation of lunar habitats and further exploration of the solar system.
Life on Venus: But there was an even bigger astronomical discovery this year, the discovery of life, or at least the chemical signature of life, in the atmosphere of Venus. If there’s life there then there’s probably life almost everywhere.
GPT-3: This new AI could democraticize the process of writing code, making it so that anyone, not just programmers, can quickly create working programs. Or we can just sit back and watch GPT-3 generate memes, write poetry, and create works of literature so good, they will soon be indistinguishable from human authors.
Neuralink: Elon Musk’s Sci-Fi pet project is no longer a passing fancy. It’s now a legitimate neuroscience project with a working prototype that was successfully implanted in a pig. Meaning we may be on the verge of getting to the point where we can access the Internet through our minds or communicate with one another telepathically. Not to mention cure neurological disorders, expand our memories, repair our vision, eliminate pain and fear, cure addictions, and much more.
Unreal Engine 5: A video game engine with movie quality graphics that are so good you’ll have a hard time differentiating them from reality. This could completely revolutionize the video game industry.
Reversing the Aging Process: Israeli scientists may have found the Fountain of Youth – giving pure oxygen to people inside of a hyperbaric chamber thereby reversing the age of their telomeres by 25 years! This could change everything!
Gene-Editing Serum: One of my biggest fears is dying of a heart attack and I absolutely hate the fact that you have no idea when it’s about to occur. Right now, my arteries could be clogged at 99% and I wouldn’t know it until I drop dead tomorrow. But in the near future such concerns may go away. Thanks to a new gene editing serum capable of preventing the body from producing cholesterol, thereby making it impossible to ever get a heart attack.
Air Plasma Engine: If we ever get to fly again we may be doing so in a vastly different way thanks to a new engine design that only uses electricity and the around air the plane as fuel.
