Layoff+: Tech Company Mega Layoffs plus Remote/Virtual Workforce

Fall of 2022 will without a doubt be when the major tech companies worldwide will do two things in parallel.

1. Layoff an unprecedented number of employees.

AND

2. Slowdown and most likely freeze hiring at full tilt.

The combination of these two events by themselves is significant, but we have seen this before. Layoffs are not unusual. What makes this combination in 2022 dangerous is the fact that this is the only time in history that this level of layoffs is happening when the fabric of these companies is massively fractured, with disconnected staff (many have never met their colleagues), and an almost missing corporate CULTURE. When employees are jumping between jobs, the level of motivation and inspiration is at a minimum.

The question that we will need to think about and answer is how to innovate and keep on progressing in such an environment? Will companies disrupt and innovate aggressively again and become tech giants or we will see tech innovators become like traditional corporations and stop innovating?

Change is constant but the question is “How do we thrive and progress in light of negative changes?” What do you think?
