Cecilia Hertz

Cecilia Hertz is a Swedish entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of Umbilical Design, a design and innovation consultancy that specializes in sustainable and inclusive design. With her extensive experience in the field of design and innovation, Cecilia has been at the forefront of exploring the potential transferability of technology from space design to healthcare.

Space design involves creating living and working environments for astronauts who are confined to a limited space for extended periods. This requires innovative and efficient design solutions that can provide for the astronauts’ physical, emotional, and psychological needs. Similarly, healthcare facilities also require well-designed spaces that can provide comfort and support for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

Cecilia has been exploring how the technology used in space design, such as lightweight materials, modular design, and advanced air and water filtration systems, can be applied to healthcare facilities to create more efficient and sustainable environments. For example, using lightweight materials in the construction of healthcare facilities can reduce the energy required for heating and cooling, while modular design can allow for more flexible and adaptable spaces.

In addition, the advanced air and water filtration systems used in space design can be adapted to healthcare facilities to provide cleaner air and water, reducing the risk of infection and improving patient outcomes.

Overall, Cecilia Hertz’s work highlights the potential for technology transfer from space design to healthcare, and the importance of innovative and sustainable design solutions in creating better living and working environments for people.
