As we get older it’s inevitable that our eyesight is going to start to deteriorate forcing us to start using reading glasses or undergo more invasive procedures to fix our vision. But soon there may be a far easier way to improve our eyesight on the fly. All we’d have to do is stare into a special red light flashlight!
As New Atlas puts it:
“As our bodies age we can expect different components to deteriorate in performance, however, not all do so at the same pace. The retinas are one example of a part that ages sooner than most, but a new study has demonstrated how a form of deep red light therapy can help arrest this slide. Hitting the eyeball with just the right wavelength of light has been found to ‘recharge the energy system’ and bring significant improvements to vision in those over 40.”
To reap these incredible benefits you’d just have to commit to the therapy for three minutes a day, everyday, for two weeks.
Adds Futurism:
“For the study, 12 male and 12 female participants between the ages of 28 and 72 had the sensitivity of their eyes checked. They were then asked to stare into a small LED flashlight for three minutes a day over two weeks, a process [professor Glen] Jefferey likened to ‘re-charging a battery.’
Participants’ ability to detect colors improved 20 percent among some of those 40 and older. Low light sensitivity improved significantly in the same group as well.”
As someone who already wears glasses and is fearful of losing his vision even more this research comes as welcomed news. Hopefully, the technology continues to progress and winds up improving our vision even more in the long run.
Is a red light flashlight that improves your vision the Greatest Idea Ever?
