Throughout the COVID-19 global pandemic mask wearing has gotten all the attention, even remarkably becoming a highly politicized issue even though the science behind their effectiveness is indisputable. But technically there is something that would be even better to wear than masks: face shields.
For some reason though shields haven’t risen in popularity and have only been used by medical workers in extreme circumstances. But perhaps that’s because there wasn’t a stylish version that people would actually want to wear. That may be about to change, however, thanks to a new design that makes the shield look and feel more like wearing a pair of sunglasses.
As Fast Company puts it:
“Doucet, founder of multidisciplinary design studio Joe Doucet x Partners, built upon the basic design of medical face shields to make the product more practical, appealing, and familiar to the general public. Doucet’s face shields do this by doubling as futuristic sunglasses. The entire shield is lightly tinted, but sleek curves separate the portion that runs across the eyes, which has a darker tint. The shield also has stiff arms that go over the ears, so the experience is very similar to putting on a pair of glasses.”
Considering that wearing sunglasses is synonymous with being seen as “cool” this new face shield design could definitely take off. Especially for those people who don’t like wearing masks because of how stifling they can feel. Personally, I am a big fan of this concept. After all, if we’re going to go out we might as well go out in style.
Is a face shield that looks like sunglasses the Greatest Idea Ever?
