A sustainability workshop applying design thinking and an innovation process to create vision, strategy, ideas, and action

Sustainability programs for groups, organizations, companies, non-profits, or conferences

Recently we’ve had a number of requests for our design thinking sprints, innovation workshops, interactive training sessions, and strategy hackathons applied for the purpose of environmental sustainability. We’ve helped with small groups and special conferences for hundreds of people. Our area of interest (and service) is in applying our strength in facilitating innovation and design thinking collaboratively for groups to help them clarify challenges, generate ideas, and take action for the environment and sustainability in their respective place, community, or organization. In addition to the special workshops we design and facilitate, we can connect you with global experts and master facilitators who specialize in sustainability and environmental issues. We’ve worked with various organizations across the globe so please reach out to share more about what you are working on and we may be able to make a recommendation, connection, or help you with your event or challenge. We have some exciting sustainability workshop case studies and examples we can share with you.

Our workshops are typically done in-person but you’d be surprised at how engaging our virtual workshops can be with the use of collaborative whiteboards, breakout rooms, etc.

Sustainability Workshops

Our programs are customized to your needs, people, and challenge. Here’s an example description of what a sustainability workshop utilizing design thinking could look like for organizations. We can also make the focus on the individual.

Title: “Design Thinking for Sustainability: Empowering Organizations to Create a Better Future”

sustainability workshops

Introduction: Sustainability is an essential aspect of our future, and it is essential that organizations understand how to implement sustainability practices into their day-to-day operations. Sustainable practices can reduce an organization’s environmental impact, create cost savings, and drive innovation. Design Thinking for Sustainability is a powerful process that can help organizations develop sustainable practices that can be implemented in their daily operations. In this article, we will explore how your organization can benefit from the Sustainability Workshops that we offer.

Activities: Our Sustainability Workshop uses Design Thinking to help organizations create innovative solutions to sustainability challenges. The workshop consists of the following activities:

  1. Introduction and Icebreaker: We will start the workshop by introducing ourselves and explaining the purpose of the workshop. We will also conduct an icebreaker activity to get everyone comfortable and engaged.
  2. Overview of Design Thinking: We will provide an overview of Design Thinking, which is a human-centered approach to problem-solving that involves empathy, ideation, prototyping, and testing.
  3. Defining the Challenge: We will discuss the sustainability challenge that the organization is facing, whether it is reducing carbon emissions or minimizing waste generation.
  4. Empathize: We will conduct empathy exercises to help the organization better understand the problem they are trying to solve. This could include exercises such as conducting a stakeholder analysis or mapping out the organization’s value chain.
  5. Ideate: We will conduct brainstorming exercises to generate a wide range of possible solutions to the challenge. We will encourage the organization to think outside the box and come up with creative ideas.
  6. Prototype: Once the organization has generated a number of ideas, we will ask them to select one or two to develop further. We will encourage them to create a prototype or mock-up of their idea.
  7. Test: We will have the organization present their ideas to the rest of the group and get feedback. We will encourage them to refine their ideas based on the feedback they receive.
  8. Action Planning: We will help the organization create an action plan for implementing their ideas. We will encourage them to set goals, assign responsibilities, and establish timelines.

Outcomes: Our Sustainability Workshops have the following outcomes:

  1. Empowerment: The workshop will empower the organization to take a proactive approach to sustainability challenges and create innovative solutions to address them.
  2. Collaboration: The workshop will encourage collaboration among team members, which can help create a shared sense of purpose and foster a culture of innovation.
  3. Creativity: The workshop will encourage creativity and help the organization develop a growth mindset, which can help drive innovation.
  4. Tangible Results: The workshop will result in an action plan that the organization can use to implement sustainable practices and measure progress towards their sustainability goals.

Design Thinking for Sustainability is a powerful process that can help organizations create innovative solutions to sustainability challenges. Our Sustainability Workshops provide organizations with the tools and knowledge they need to develop sustainable practices that can be implemented in their day-to-day operations. By taking a proactive approach to sustainability challenges, organizations can reduce their environmental impact, create cost savings, and drive innovation.
