A quick look at everything that tickled my fancy this past week:
Hot Tub Boat
It may not be as cool as a hot tub time machine but this invention may be the next best thing.
As My Modern Met puts it:
“Hot tubs are undoubtedly relaxing, but a hot tub boat takes unwinding to the next level. It’s also an ideal social distancing activity. Residents of Seattle can rent a floating jacuzzi and explore the sites of the 580-acre Lake Union with a select group of people.
Each hot tub boat fits up to six people, features an electric motor, and an onboard diesel heater which keeps the water at a steamy 104°F (40 °C). Users simply steer using a joystick, and can go anywhere on the lake at a maximum speed of 5 mph (8 kph). There’s even integrated Bluetooth speakers and a storage space for food and drinks.”
Stainless Steel Appliance “Wallpaper”
Wallpaper isn’t just for walls anymore. Now, it’s for your kitchen appliances too!
My Recipes sums it up best:
“If you’ve ever rented an apartment, you’ve probably learned to get pretty creative with decorating. When you can’t have wood floors, you cover the beige carpeting with pretty rugs. When you can’t take down the blinds, just add curtains. And when you can’t repaint the walls, stick-on wallpaper can make your home look straight out of a design magazine.
Those tired kitchen appliances, however—well, you’re stuck with those. At least you were until now. While you can’t upgrade to a shinier model in a rental, you can make them look sleeker and shinier with this removable stainless steel wallpaper. Designed for use atop multi-surface fridges, ovens, microwaves, and dishwashers, the vinyl wallpaper brings the look and functionality of stainless steel without the need for new appliances (plus the extra cost for a stainless upgrade).”
Midea U-shaped Air Conditioners
If you live in an older building in a major city you may know all too well the struggle of trying to put an air conditioning unit inside your window. Attempting to do so is usually an exercise in futility as you are unable to either get it to sit right so that it doesn’t fall out and/or ensure that it keeps your apartment cool without losing cold air to the outside world. But thankfully there is a design solution on the way that could alleviate those concerns as a new U shaped air conditioner is made to actually sit on windows sill properly.
According to Wired:
“What makes this air conditioner special is its U shape. By that I mean there’s a big notch between the front and back. It allows you to slide your window down into the unit—not all the way—but enough to greatly minimize the gap around the sides. There’s less open space for your cool air to leak out (or hot air to seep in), and that also means better soundproofing than traditional window ACs.”
Are any of these the Greatest Idea Ever?
