Going back into history, innovators were the rare people (Newton as an example) who had time and talent to innovate. The vast majority of the population were so occupied with simply living, or so uneducated, that they did not have time to imagine a new way of working.

While you might not be aware of it, you are likely to choose option 2, because it reduces a certain problem down to zero.
