I would like to address the nation tonight. To say something that I’ve waited four years to say: Donald Trump – you’re fired!!! And fittingly, we have Joe Bye, Don to thank!
It’s true. Our long national nightmare is finally over. During 2020, the worst year ever, comes the best news ever. Balance has been restored to The Force. Logic and reason, along with compassion and decency, returning to its rightful place in the highest office in the land.
JasonRRMartinez put it into baseball friendly terms on Twitter that especially resonated with me:
“The U.S. has agreed to terms on a 4-yr deal (club option for 2025-28) with decency, compassion, empathy, science, and democracy. Hate, incompetence, corruption, dishonesty, narcissism, bigotry, and fascism have been designated for assignment in order to make room on the roster.”
People all over the world took to the streets to celebrate this historic moment, to celebrate the fact that in the battle of good vs. evil it was good that prevailed. Pure, unbridled joy returning to their faces for the first time in years. An outpouring of emotions that only the thrill of childbirth can replicate. What is it that they’re celebrating? The return of normalcy for starters. Doing all the things that we should have been doing all along. Things that Biden isn’t going to waste any time getting back to.
According to the Washington Post:
“President-elect Joe Biden is planning to quickly sign a series of executive orders after being sworn into office on Jan. 20, immediately forecasting that the country’s politics have shifted and that his presidency will be guided by radically different priorities.
He will rejoin the Paris climate accords, according to those close to his campaign and commitments he has made in recent months, and he will reverse President Trump’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization. He will repeal the ban on almost all travel from some Muslim-majority countries, and he will reinstate the program allowing ‘dreamers,’ who were brought to the United States illegally as children, to remain in the country, according to people familiar with his plans.”
Biden will also be putting together a team of scientists to guide a comprehensive coronavirus plan to hopefully finally put some distance between us and this deadly disease. Something that the grossly incompetent Donald Trump has failed to do.
But getting America back on track is only half the battle. After everything he’s said and done, every crime he’s committed, Donald Trump shouldn’t have gotten a single vote. Even if you voted for him last time, even if you’re traditionally Republican, even if you like some of his policies, even if you would vote for someone like him again in the future, to vote for him now, at this moment in time, during a pandemic, with all life on Earth hanging in the balance during the Climate Change battle to come, is entirely unconscionable, irresponsible, and immoral. It’s completely indefensible. And yet 70 million completely broken and brainwashed people did exactly that. How do you fix that? How do you heal a broken nation? How do you get people to see right from wrong when they are blinded by their love for a man who doesn’t love anyone but himself?
I don’t have all the answers and Joe Biden probably doesn’t either. But I am hopeful that we are at least headed in the right direction. That an effort will at least be made to heal the nation and start building bridges to close the gap between the two sides. That, Biden, if nothing else, is at least a reasonable, good-natured person, who will surround himself with compassionate people who want to make a difference. Ultimately where we go from there is up to us.
