Throughout the COVID-19 global pandemic mask wearing has gotten all the attention, even remarkably becoming a highly politicized issue even though the science behind their effectiveness is indisputable. But technically there is something that would be even better to wear than masks: face shields. For some reason though shields haven’t risen in popularity and have only been used by medical workers in extreme circumstances.

It’s with sentiment in mind that I thought I would share with you yet another amazing mask innovation, one that uses an electric field to keep the coronavirus at bay. The basic premise is that viruses depend on electrostatic forces to attach themselves to cells.

Despite its dense population Japan hasn’t gotten hit that hard by the coronavirus relatively speaking. In fact, last week they were down to only 40 new cases (in Tokyo) and employees were starting to return to work. This could be attributed to their existing mask wearing culture or perhaps the fact that the way Japanese is spoken limits the spread of particles.
