#2,132 – Brain Week: We’re Not As Conscious As We Think

Greatest. Idea. Ever.

We assume that we’re always conscious, at least when we’re not asleep that is. Obviously we go on autopilot sometimes and have involuntary actions that we don’t control but other than that we think we know what’s going on. Think that we’re always in control. Aware of our surroundings. Living in the moment. But that may not be entirely true.

Innovations Going Beyond Compliance

ITONICS

Sustainable business practices that are bringing both business and environmental value. In a March 2020 briefing about the COVID-19 pandemic, UN Environmental Chief Inger Anderson stated that “nature is sending us a message”. With 75% of infectious diseases coming from wildlife, deforestation accounting for roughly 20% of greenhouse gas emissions, and current projections seeing global temperatures rising by 3-4 Celsius in the next 100 years, the message is unambiguous.

#2,134 – Brain Week: Aging Set Point

Greatest. Idea. Ever.

Here’s something that will blow your mind: just by thinking you are older than you really are you can actually make yourself physically older. A phenomenon known as the Aging Set Point. Truly remarkable stuff. Flash forward 500 years though and we’ve gotten to the point where we know almost everything there is to know about the body at least when it comes to identifying all of its parts.

Peak Performance: Continuous Testing & Evaluation of LLM-Based Applications

Speaker: Aarushi Kansal, AI Leader & Author and Tony Karrer, Founder & CTO at Aggregage

Software leaders who are building applications based on Large Language Models (LLMs) often find it a challenge to achieve reliability. It’s no surprise given the non-deterministic nature of LLMs. To effectively create reliable LLM-based (often with RAG) applications, extensive testing and evaluation processes are crucial. This often ends up involving meticulous adjustments to prompts.

#2,136 – Brain Week: Mouth Sensor

Greatest. Idea. Ever.

Scientists have figured out a clever workaround for the problem of not being able to get a close read on brain activity in the hippocampus due to its location deep in the brain: going in through the mouth. Discover Magazine explains: “Neuroscientists have developed an unusual new tool to help in recording brain activity — a mouth-based magnetic sensor.

#2,137 – Brain Week: BrainEx

Greatest. Idea. Ever.

You spend your whole life learning stuff, building up experiences, working out to stay in shape, evolving as an individual, etc. and then you get hit by a bus and in a flash your whole life is over. That sucks. But what if “dying” wasn’t the end? What if you could be brought back to life several hours after your brain has ceased functioning?
