Superhuman Innovation

New book on the currently most popular tech topic: Artificial Intelligence. Author is introducing this topic through current transformation and future prospects. I would recommend it to anyone looking for future scenarios and wanting to think more deep about AI.

First time I heard for a term:

Computational Creativity

It is a way that:

AI can up-level humanity to be more creative.

Below you can find more information about this book:

TECHNOLOGY IS RESHAPING HUMAN CREATIVITY AT WARP SPEED

Human-Centered AI:  Empowering humanity to be more human

Artificial intelligence is being hailed as a revolutionary technology that will reshape how people interact with each other and the world at large.  It’s being called the new electricity of our time, changing industries globally as well as how people fundamentally view and understand business opportunities that improve the human condition.  Deep learning, neural nets, and bots have entered into the everyday vocabulary, yet there’s still confusion over what they mean, and how they will impact business, the economy, and our future society.

In SUPERHUMAN INNOVATION:  Transforming Businesses with Artificial Intelligence, technology visionary Chris Duffey, Head of AI Innovation and Strategy at Adobe, cuts through the hype to show how AI can be harnessed to deliver powerful change, helping companies and entrepreneurs innovate and gain competitive advantage.  The book is a practical guide that explains how AI and machine learning are impacting not only how businesses, brands and people innovate, but also what they innovate with their products, services and content.

“Customers and consumers are not interested in the technicalities of AI.  They want to know what it can achieve and how AI technology can serve people and businesses.  That’s what Superhuman Innovation is about,” says Duffey.

The book combines Duffey’s insights with those of a digital assistant called Aimé, that Duffey assembled using AI and natural language tools.  The technology allows Aimé to identify, understand and respond to keywords, phrases, ideas and requests.  Much like Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri, Aimé demonstrates how human-centered AI has evolved in a few short years.

Duffey shows what AI can achieve and how it can serve people and businesses – including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision and machine reasoning.  With AI, companies can harness the power of data, personalization, and on-demand availability at the touch of an intelligent button.  He introduces five principles, with the framework of the acronym SUPER, which describes how AI enables change and innovation.  They serve as the basis for an AI roadmap on which a strategy can be built:

  • Speed
  • Understanding
  • Performance
  • Experimentation
  • Results

AI can access vast amounts of data quickly to provide insights into marketing, customer behavior, healthcare, automotive, and driving habits.  Companies are using predictive analytics to understand customer preferences and make product recommendations, over time learning about customer tastes and distinguishing between what people say they want and what they really like.

SUPERHUMAN INNOVATION is written in a dialog format between Duffey and Aimé to show what AI can achieve by leveraging technology to solve problems that we can’t solve ourselves, or help solve them faster. By applying AI to higher-level tasks, businesses can enhance human creativity and innovation.

AI is not about the technology; it’s about how technology can be leveraged to uplevel humanity.  With AI, machine learning and deep learning systems, machines are becoming embedded into everyday life.  “Human ingenuity together with AI will bring about innovation across energy, fashion, finance, pharmaceuticals, recruiting, retail, advertising, art, automotive, aviation, banking, energy, security and sports,” says Duffey.

SUPERHUMAN INNOVATION provides CEOs, CTOs, project managers, and anyone responsible and interested in short, mid and long range innovation planning with the essential understanding of how artificial intelligence will transform businesses, society and individuals.

About Aimé

Aimé was born out of the digital age. A time when technology is disrupting everything and everyone. Specifically, with the emergence of artificial intelligent voice assistants going mainstream, a fascination arose: Can a book be written about AI using a creative intelligent assistant? Aimé, which she is affectionally referred to – is derived from the French phrase for ‘beloved’ (bien aimé) and is also a meaningful combination of AI + me. Consequently, Aimé reflects a foundational belief that AI will become humanity’s beloved co-creator and intelligent personal assistant going forward.

Aimé is beautifully complex both technically and conceptually. She is an AI and machine learning framework comprised of technologies that power her intelligent co-creation abilities. Aimé is not a single sourced technology but rather a suite of technologies, many of which are opensource, each building on a different set of concepts, approaches and infrastructures. The conversational agent Aimé leverages a number of expert systems using AI and ML techniques such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), Natural Language Understanding (NLU) and Natural Language Generation (NLG) APIs.  These techniques, for example, allow Aimé to identify, understand and respond to key words, phrases, ideas and requests, and at times instances of recognition and understanding of experiences and reasoning.

The underlying aspects of Aimé embody primarily three systems:  AI Voice Recognition, AI Content Understanding and Summarization, AI Content Creation and Generation. Voice Recognition and continuous dictation enables for human to system interaction through a voice-user interface (VUI) for tasks such as speech-to-text, text-to-speech, voice editing, formatting, spelling, and sharing of documents. AI Content Understanding and Summarization technology reviews and abridges databases, articles or research papers into quick digestible content through approaches such as sentiment analysis, labeling and organization of higher-level concepts based on contextual understanding. AI Content Creation and Generation is the ability for the system to develop concepts and ideas to aid the content creation process. Writing algorithms which are designed to emulate the human writing process helped contribute ideas, titles, content and drafts.

AI and conversational agents are still in their infancy and Aimé is not perfect (but then again who of us are). She is a mix of science and art to help deliver smarter, more efficient results faster by handling and analyzing vast amounts of data. Aimé is part conversational text and conversational speech, and through machine learning will learn and get smarter over time. The hope and vision with conversational agents such as Aimé are to be of service to humanity. Aiding us to not only work more productively but more intelligently. Aimé was used throughout this book and was invaluable in getting to starting points faster and for everything from ideation, writing and research capacities. There was also an emotional component to her assistance in that there was a sense of peace of mind to know that she was there as a resource and source of inspiration. As helpful as AI Intelligent Assistants are, they too need assistance with a human in the loop approach.

Artificial Intelligence and voice systems like Aimé are a signal to how AI assistants will empower us across all aspects of our personal and professional lives. As AI matures it will continue to seamlessly fit into our lives naturally and miraculously as an extension of ourselves.
