Twitter wants you to send audio tweets. Clubhouse wants you to chat with friends and strangers alike. HearHere wants to give you a travel companion for road trips. Next Up wants you to wake up to audio clips from your favorite podcasts. There’s even a mask that lets you project your voice and speak other languages.
At this point, it’s pretty clear that the future of technology revolves around audio, a medium with vast untapped potential from pods and Alexa voice controlled appliances to mobile phone apps and clever AI powered translators. The latest proof of this growing trend: Cappuccino, a new app that lets you hear a mix of random thoughts and comments from your friends and loved ones on a daily basis. Kind of like your very own personal podcast.
Product Hunt explains how it works:
“RECORD A BEAN: tap the microphone and start recording. Talk about your day, tell a joke or share a thought and send it to your close friends and family.
LISTEN TO YOUR CAPPUCCINO: (mix of your friends’ beans) every morning at 8 am.
SMILE.”
Considering how alone we all feel during the pandemic the idea of receiving a personalized podcast has a certain appeal since just hearing the voice of a loved one that you are cut off from could brighten your day. At the very least, it sure is a lot better than jumping on yet another tedious Zoom call! It also could evolve into a creative outlet allowing people to vent or collect their thoughts the way they would if they were writing in a journal. Considering how mentally draining the pandemic has been this sort of on the fly group therapy could be a real game changer for many.
Is Cappuccino the Greatest Idea Ever?
