It’s becoming more and more apparent that masks and other facial coverings are here to stay. A standard core feature of the new normal. So much so, that companies are now even seeing the coronavirus pandemic as a business opportunity, using branded masks to further their mass appeal. At the forefront of this movement is Disney which is set to release masks featuring Star Wars characters and Marvel superheroes.
But masks only go so far with mixed opinions as to whether they even work all that well. Which is why some people have opted for face shields instead. Ultimately, to truly feel safe we may need to get to the point where we walk around in full hazmat suits. A course of action that some of us have already implemented using DIY ingenuity or something to that effect.
Clearly it’s not all that realistic or practical to be walking around all the time in a full hazmat suit. What we really need is something more convenient. Something that would still provide us with full range of motion and the ability to lead a somewhat normal life. Or at least have some fun every once and a while. That’s where Micrashell, a suit specifically designed for nightlife and entertainment, comes into play.
Fast Company explains:
“Two design features custom-built for entertainment are the drink and vaping canister supply system that allows patrons to imbibe without removing the helmet. Sort of like a space-age beer helmet and hot-box combo. [Head of Invention Miguel] Risueño says they also avoided a full body suit for practical reasons. ‘It would be a huge pain to have to take it off every time you needed to go to the washroom,’ he says. ‘We also tried to make sure that if you wanted to have sex, it’s also something you could do.'”
To accomplish that the suit was designed in a very specific way.
According to Futurism, “The suit — which only covers roughly the top third of the body — features cut-resistant fabric, an air-filtration helmet, a clear shield for good visibility, wireless voice communication, a video camera, and of course an accompanying smartphone app. Lights along the suit can even indicate what the user’s mood is in or display messages.”
Considering the time crunch that we find ourselves in the concept for the suit was developed entirely with existing off the shelf technology in mind. Far-fetched futuristic imaginings that are years away from being commercialized were not considered when designing the Micrashell.
But one can easily imagine a future in which we all kinds of different designer suits hit the market, ones for partying and ones for more formal occasions. We may even get to the point where we have one kind of suit for going to work, one for traveling or hiking in, one for going on dates, etc. Essentially, get to the point where full or half body suits replace our wardrobes and become fashion statements in of themselves. The Micrashell is just the beginning.
Is the Micrashell the Greatest Idea Ever?
