Thanks to COVID-19 I can’t even imagine traveling somewhere out of state anytime soon. It might be months or years before I get on a plane again or take another vacation. But when and if I ever do travel again I know exactly where I want to stay: at a video game hotel!
Wait. What?!
That’s right. We will soon have a video game themed hotel that will be both an homage to the games we grow up loving and a love letter to the future of gaming. And we’ll have the console that started it all, Atari, to thank.
As Travel and Leisure puts it:
“According to GSD, the hotels will offer guests a completely new hospitality experience ‘inspired by, and built with, classic and modern video game culture in mind.’
The Atari Hotels, the company said, will blend the past, present, and future of video games to offer guests a one-of-a-kind experience. The hotels will come with state of the art amenities for e-sports fans and content creators. Guests at the hotels will be able to play games, try out immersive entertainment, check out retro-style gaming arcades, and relax in a speakeasy-style bar.”
The immersive entertainment aspect is what stands out the most to me. Are we talking about straightforward AR or VR or something more similar to what Disney’s Star Wars hotel would do where you’re literally apart of a story while you stay there?! Because that would be amazing.
But what’s really amazing is the fact that one of these Atari hotels is actually coming to Phoenix, Arizona! Meaning that I’ll get to stay in one without having to travel anywhere! Atari Hotel, please be awesome. I have nothing else. I need this!
Is a gaming hotel the Greatest Idea Ever?
