Disruptive Technology is ALWAYS Greeted with Doubt, Skepticism and Rejection

Every disruptive technology is greeted with doubt, skepticism, and rejection. That is the normal trend.
In 2002-2005 when as the founder of my startup ConnecTerra Inc, by all accounts the world’s first official IoT company, I started talking to folks about how everything would get on the internet and the economy would be shifting. As expected, everyone suggested I was CRAZY. ‘Banking on the internet Linda? Not possible.’ ‘Thermostats on the net talking to energy companies? Never.’ ‘A doorbell talking to your alarm company and sending you notifications? Insane.’

So, fact number 1: There is massive universal skepticism and rejection before there is acceptance of radically new ideas.

Fact number 2: Big ideas take time to work. How long has it taken for EVs to become popular? How long did it take for eCommerce to replace regular retail: A long time. Look at us now, a fully digital society!

AND FACT NUMBER 3: If it were not for these crazy, big ideas, which are first inexplicable and clunky, we would not be where we are today in our society and technology. So my hats off to #meta and Mark Zuckerberg for pushing hard, and to all of the crazy people, who are actively and constantly disrupting and innovating.

This article shares some of the doubts and hesitations and valid concerns about the Metaverse, but remember the intent! We are just at the start. Remember Version 14 of the iPhone is VERY different than Version 1 of the original iPhone. Remember how it changed the world!
