Always be Recruiting

One of our primary responsibilities as leaders is to assemble the best team possible to achieve the results that we want to achieve as a team. This means that we are constantly looking to figure out what kind of person can elevate the performance of the team as a whole.

Once we understand this, we can then be always on the lookout for the talent that we need. You will be surprised how you can find the right talent in all the potentially wrong places or places where we are not looking.

The key here is that we are always on the lookout for the right kind of talent we need, irrespective of the setting we are in. We are looking out for talent when we are engaging with our customers, partners, vendors, in our social settings, in our personal interactions as customers with the various service providers.

Good talented people are all around us. But we need to know what we are looking for so that we recognise it when we find the right talent.

I have learnt from experience that

Average leaders let recruiters find talent for them, good leaders recruit when necessary but great leaders are always recruiting.

  1. Always be recruiting is something that I follow. I don’t have a particular kind of person in mind. But when I see someone I look at what is it that this person has done better than me. And what is it that they CAN do. Very often, I’ve found that when you hire for traits, and potential, the value will only be generated in the future. Many folks who are hiring want instant value. They are unwilling to invest time in polishing that uncut diamond.
And this is where the compromise starts…

    1. Well said @Nibu. We could be looking for traits or attitudes but by always being on the lookout for talent, we are better positioned to find them 😉
