What industry or technology interests or excites you the most right now?

Agri-Tech! Farming and food production is one of the earliest and most important aspects of civilization and today it is facing some of the biggest challenges in the world, with the increasing world population, pressure to move towards more sustainable practices and climate change. It is so exciting to see the combination of traditional practices with upcoming technology, such as the use of AI in precision farming and the combination of satellite and drone imagery for assessing crop health. Showing how collaboration and innovation can lead to real world solutions.

What type of client engagements do you enjoy the most?

The most fulfilling part of this job is finding real solutions for real world problems. Working closely with the client and delving into their needs, wishes and dreams as well as getting the opportunity to learn about a new topic daily. All of our clients are excited to share their worlds with us and this enthusiasm is my favourite part of client engagement.

Do you have any books or podcast recommendations to share?

I just finished reading Harlen Cobens ‘Stay Close’, a mystery novel with deep characters and strong motives. Next on my list is ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ series by Richard Osmon, a mystery series with a laugh. However, my favourite book of all time is ‘The Woman in Black’ by Susan Hill, a book that will make you jump in your boots.

My podcast choice is much more light-hearted with ‘Off Menu’ by comedians Ed Gamble and James Acaster, fueling my food interests and ‘No Such Thing as a Fish’, a fact-based comedy podcast.

Are there any areas/topics in which you consider yourself an expert?

I am just finishing my PhD using molecular techniques in Agriculture. I specialized in qPCR and meta-barcode sequencing within soils to allow information-based decisions to be made on the farm level. I also worked in aerospace engineering, working with polymer products. This has given me an insight and expertise in large manufacturing processes in specialized industries.

Emma Chapelhow preparing to serve in a game of badminton What do you do when you are not working?

I’m a competitive badminton player, I am always up for a game. If I’m not playing badminton, I’m out running in the countryside or working on the family farm. I have also recently set myself the challenge to take part in as many new experiences as I can, this has included trying sushi, attending a rave and scuba diving with sharks!
