Similar to the Rokid glasses that I just wrote about there’s another new coronavirus tracking technology in the works. A relatively simple computer based system from Landing AI that uses a neural net to keep tabs on individuals, making sure they are adhering to strict social distancing guidelines by not getting too close to one another.
As Futurism explains, “The company is hoping the system could allow certain workplaces to monitor their employees and make sure they are within a respectable distance of each other. Managers could easily keep check on workers.
First, the camera system calibrates the input and adjusts what it sees for perspective. A neural network then detects individual pedestrians and draws a box around them. If two bounding boxes come too close within each other, they are highlighted in red.”
Personally, I would prefer if this technology was for more than just enterprise use. Ideally, getting made into a consumer facing app, and making its way into our phones or smart watches. Once there it could act as a personal space detector, giving us the ability to scan our environments and notify others when they get too close to us. That way the technology isn’t Orwellian as it empowers individual users, not governments.
Is Landing AI the Greatest Idea Ever?
