Nokia’s Big Open Innovation Challenge

The Nokia Open Innovation Challenge is an eagerly awaited event in the open innovation calendar.

The 2017 edition of the contest has just been launched and it is asking innovators all over the world for their big ideas for the Internet of Things (IoT).The challenge, which is now in its fifth year is looking for ideas, technologies and new business models in IoT that enable a smart, safe and sustainable world.

These are concepts that could improve cities by solving urban challenges, improve safety with technology and enable the next industrial revolution with robotics, sensors and LTE (Long-Term Evolution, a standard for high-speed wireless communication).

“Ultimately our aim at Nokia is to create technology that connects the world, a challenge which we embrace with nothing less than our relentless passion for innovation,” said Kathrin Buvac, Chief Strategy Officer of Nokia.  “But we know, that we cannot succeed alone. Co-innovating in an open ecosystem with start-ups and large tech companies in a healthy balance is so essential.”

The submission period for the open innovation challenge is from June 8 to September 20.  Judges will then select the best teams to take part in a two-day concept development workshop with Nokia experts in Helsinki in November.  The winners will be announced after this.
