How long have you been at yet2?

I officially joined the yet2 team on February 2022, so I’m one of the newest members of the company.

What industry or technology interests or excites you the most right now?

I find anything related to biotechnology extremely exiting. It’s fascinating how scientists transform a living system or organism into a highly impacting technology. Additionally, this branch of science can benefit multiple industries, including health, agriculture, food, and the environment. I’m particularly interested in the development of genetically modified organisms for the production of high interest molecules. The design of mRNA vaccines, or the production of recombinant human insulin using bacteria are just a few exciting examples of what can be achieved with biotech!

Do you have any book recommendations?

I love to read, so I always answer this question by asking another one. What do you like to read?

My all-time favorite book is “The Architect’s Apprentice” by Elif Shafak. If you like historical fiction, you might enjoy this beautifully written novel that takes place in the Ottoman Empire;

If you like horror, you can never go wrong with Stephen King. “IT” and “The Stand” are my personal favorites (don’t let the one thousand pages scare you though, I promise you won’t be able to put them down);

If you enjoy detective/mystery novels, I’d definitely recommend anything by Agatha Christie (specially “And Then There Were None”). But Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone and The Woman in White are also a fun read! (not to mention classics);

Speaking of classics, “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes will melt your heart, and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë is must;

For laughs I’d recommend “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams, and if you’re a kid at heart, “His Dark Materials” series by Philip Pullman or “The Inheritance Cycle” by Christopher Paolini are always a fantastic way to spend the time;

Finally, if you enjoy sci-fi or fantasy, “Slaughterhouse-five” by Kurt Vonnegut and Neil Gaiman’s  “Stardust” are my favorites.

Are there any areas/topics in which you consider yourself an expert?

When it comes to science, I don’t believe anyone is ever really an expert. Like Aristotle once said, “The more you know, the more you realize you don’t know”. There is a lot we still don’t understand about the inner workings of our universe, but it’s also exciting to think of everything that is yet to be discovered. However, I have a background in Biotechnology, specifically within the medical and pharmaceutical branches of the field. I’m also fairly knowledgeable on the neuroinfection process caused by free living amoebas, and have a published review article on  Naegleria fowleri, also known as “the brain eating amoeba”.

What do you do when you are not working?

I love spending time with my family, friends and loved ones. Having a movie night or spending time reading a book are my go-to unwinding activities. However, I also love traveling and anything involving outdoor activities!
