Most companies are thinking about how to keep their products from the past in the present, And they look completely out of a promising future. The same conditions cause different consequences when applying the Design Thinking methodology.

Although I was attending as a sponsor/exhibitor for Indigo Studio, I did manage to break away to go to the “There’s more than one way to skin a cat: Integrating UX into an Agile environment” session. As sometime director of Design at Infragistics, I personally have had first hand experience trying to integrate UX into an existing, established Agile engineering process with large-ish teams. There are laughs of course, but that’s incidental to the ideas being furiously written down in notebooks. It’s about better access to spontaneous thought and free associative divergent thinking. Surprising the mind with stimulating, imaginative, and fun games can, and does, provide shifts in thinking that are elusive and time consuming otherwise. ” What I mean is you could use Improv problem solving tools with Agile, Lean, Design Thinking, or CPS.

Purpose Driven Innovation

Gregg Fraley

Without a Clear Purpose, Innovation Drifts Off Course. If everyone else is jumping off the Design Thinking bridge shouldn’t we? Just kidding, Design Thinking can be a good choice, as can Agile, or Lean, or your own blended system. Do Purpose First, Select a Framework, Then Do Projects. Relating to the New Innovation Era

Paul Hobcraft

When you step back and recognize all the different advancements we have making in designing tools and frameworks, in understanding innovation, it holds promise. Of course, much of what we have will still remain. The sad part is that many of our existing consulting firms offer solutions that are unfit for todays need or ill-equipped for offering advice on tomorrow’s purpose and the designs necessary. Can we go that route in our organization design?

Dealing with the innovation legacy lying within your business.

The fallacy of "modern" management when it comes to innovation management

Moves the Needle

Agile The agile manifesto , which was introduced in 2001, prioritizes short product development “sprints” in order to incorporate new information which might come from a variety of places such as new technology, customer input, insights, or development issues. Instead of assuming that businesses know exactly what the customers need and then build the product heads-down over the course of months or years, they can release versions quickly and incorporate customer response.

Innovation System Thinking on a Sunday! What, no roast or glass of wine? Later.

Paul Hobcraft

Of course, this greatly depends on what I am working on, for others and, or for myself. Some weeks I just don’t find the opportunity to apply it, so that “Sunday thinking” sits there for another day or week, or even months before I revisit it or connect it back up. The practice of lean thinking, design thinking, visual thinking have increasingly started to dominate our “innovation thinking.”
